Banned From Adsense, What Do I Do?

Ok, to set the record straight I haven’t been banned from Google Adsense, but I’ve seen this question come up enough times to want to address it. Google Banning is happening to so many people, so often that it’s becoming quite common.

So unless you want to end up as one of the Google Adsense outsiders, here are some suggestions for you. Oh yeah and if this advice comes too late, I’m not forgetting about you either. You’ll find some helpful tips to get your Adsense reinstated at the end of this article.

Before you can fix any problem you have to know what’s wrong. Apparently Google thinks your a bad boy or girl if you click or your own ad, go fiqure. This goes a bit further though. If you’ve ever proudly proclaimed to your family or friends “go check out my new website, I get paid everytime someone clicks on my ads,” then you’re also suspect.

You see, Google’s watching and they’re looking for several things. Clicks coming from the same IP address day after day. Clicks from proxy servers, your own IP or those who do not consistantly go beyond the first page of the advertisers site raise a red flag. Keep in mind that having your family, friends, etc… clicking on your ads each day to make you some money, will catch up with you. When the heavy hand of Google comes they don’t just ban the single site, the entire account in question is penalized.

Google banning has also been know to happen from what is called an Adsense click attack. That’s when a disgruntled person launches a campaign of clicks to your ads with the intention of getting you banned. When your site falls under attack there is really nothing you can do to prevent it, accept possibly letting Google know through their contact form.

Another way to get into trouble is my mistakely clicking on your own ads. This happened to me a couple weeks ago while updating one of my websites. If you’ve done this then you’re probably aware of the sinking feeling that accompanies it.

I immediately jotted down the website URL that I landed from my erroneous click and the time of day it happened. I then sent Google a message through their contact form letting them know I accidentally clicked my own ad. I gave them the URL of the advertisiers site and time it happened and apologized and asked them to remove the revenue from my click. I did get a response back from a live person from Google saying they have credited the advertiser.

Another thing that’s getting people into trouble lately is having pictures next to their Adsense. Google doesn’t like this and usually will send you a polite warning before they terminate your account. The list of Adsense program policies goes on and on, you can see it here: https://www.google.com/adsense/support/ Following the AdSense terms and conditions will keep you out of trouble for the most part.

Unfortunately with the Google Adsense program you can be guilty by default so if you’ve been Adsense banned here are some tips to help you get your account back.

1. A lesson I learned from accidentally clicking on my own Adsense is to be honest and forthright when dealing with Google. Write an apology and explain the circumstances and where you made a mistake. Tell them the steps you’ve set up to prevent any problems from happening in the future. The key here is to be genuine and let them know you value the relationship.

2. If this doesn’t work and you get a canned response you don’t have much recourse. You can attempt to contact someone who’s in at Google to perhaps sway their opinion of you. This is unlikely unless you’ve got a site that was a high producing source of revenue. Finding an insider at Google who will put in a good word for you will be extremely difficult.

3. Setting up a Google account under the name of a corporation or another individual will not work unless you change your domain name, internet service provider, ip address and bank account information. This is not a viable solution.

So, what to do if you’ve been banned from Google Adsense and have tried to be reinstated unsuccessfully. Try to find another pay-per-click company that will accept you. Here are some alternative ppc programs to Adsense in no particular order:

Adbrite – http://adbrite.com/
Miva – http://www.miva.com/us/content/partners/arx.asp
RevenuePilot – http://www.revenuepilot.com/
Bidvertiser – http://www.bidvertiser.com/
Veoda – http://advertise.veoda.com/
Yahoo YPN – http://publisher.yahoo.com/
CBProSense – http://www.cbprosense.net/CB/
AllFeeds – http://www.allfeeds.com/
BidClix – http://www.bidclix.com/
Chitika – http://chitika.com/
Adhearus – http://www.adhearus.org/
AffiliateSensor – http://www.affiliatesensor.com/
AllFeeds – http://www.allfeeds.com/
BidClix – http://www.bidclix.com/
Clicksor – http://www.clicksor.com/
Kanoodle – http://www.kanoodle.com/
TargetPoint – http://publisher.targetpoint.com/

There are a lot more good paying ppc companies out there. You might even wish to rethink your entire website revenue strategy. Sites like http://www.CJ.com or http://revenuegateway.com pay by action and can lead to even more profit depending upon your website topic.

I was just banned from google. It came to me completely unexpected. I wrote an appeal and havent heard back from them. All I know is that ‘they’ have blocked all my google adsense on my sites. I havent even made a penny off of it. I had almost made it to the prefered amount when I was dropped. funny how the timing went. That took me over two years to get to. Im very dissapointed in the program as I sit feeling like Ive done something wrong, and if I have I had not done it intentionially, and deserve to be heard. but ‘they’ treat everyone like a criminal, guess thats the way of the world now.
    thanks for the vent.

Sorry to hear about that Kat.

I’ve heard it said before that many times Google waits until your are about to expect a check before they ban you. Makes perfect sense from their point of view, they charge their Adwords customers and keep 100% of the commissions that way.

    Good luck finding a replacement.

  5. [...] Google Adsense Banned It’s a horrible sight, to open up your email and see the message that you’ve been Google Adsense Banned. Many people who receive this message know exactly why it’s happened, by abusing the Google terms of service. Doing things like clicking your own ads, or engaging in asking people to click your ads can definitly get you in trouble. It’s easy to say well anyone who gets their account disabled probably deserved it. However, I’ve become aware of an alarming trend. Google is frequently disabling the accounts of people who do not know how it happened, or what they did wrong. How do I know this? Well, I’ve heard from people on my internet marketing forum, in email comments and in customers I’ve coached over the years. One of the most recent examples happened just this week. I was instructing a good friend on how to set up a Hubpage to create an online presence and drive traffic to her website. One of the benefits of Hubpages is you can make money from Ebay, Amazon, and you guessed it… Adsense. Well, lo and behold not three days after she had put up her hub (which was doing quite well), and with no explanation, her Adsense account was disabled. Here’s the message she received… “While going through our records recently, we found that your AdSense account has posed a significant risk to our AdWords advertisers. Since keeping your account in our publisher network may financially damage our advertisers in the future, we’ve decided to disable your account. Please understand that we consider this a necessary step to protect the interests of both our advertisers and our other AdSense publishers. We realize the inconvenience this may cause you, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions about your account or the actions we’ve taken, please do not reply to this email. You can find more information by visiting https://www.google.com/adsense/suppo…57153&hl=en_US. Sincerely, The Google AdSense Team” Gotta love that last part, don’t call us we’ll call you, not. I instructed her to contact Google and ask what she could do to get back in good standing, and to tell them that she values the relationship with them and she will continue to do everything possible to comply with their TOS. I told her to explain her situation and appeal for help with re-instating her account. Unfortunately in 99% of the cases I’ve heard of an Adsense account that’s terminated is not reinstated and a canned response is given. Not a great way to treat people. Here’s a link to a post I wrote titled, Banned from Adsense what do I do? 9. reporter Says:

being banned from adsense isn’t the end of the world. They’re are several other ways to monetize your sites. However, if adsense is a huge money maker for you, your best bet is to get in touch with them (THIS WILL NOT BE EASY) and rectify the issue to their satsifaction. Remember, if you’re making money, they’re making money. They want you to be successful. You might not want to make the changes that they require, but you’ll need to do so if you want your adsense back.
