Blog Rush Or Blog Hush?

Ok, I’ve heard the fuss about John Reese’s new blog widget called BlogRush and how many people are complaining of very low click throughs. Here’s my take…I’ve had Blog Rush installed for two days now and here are the results:

BlogRush Clicks

Zero clicks in the last two days out of 384 impressions. I have many more impressions waiting in queue. However, the BlogRush network is probably pretty backed up with waiting impressions at the moment. From traditional conversion standpoint this amount of impressions and zero clickthroughs is not so great.

Even Darren Rouse of Problogger fame has had absolutely dismal returns from his BlogRush impressions. something like 70,000 and 35 clicks, sheesh, not to good…Check it out for yourself at:

While I’m not yet writing off the Blog Rush widget as a waste of time I would not put too much faith into just yet. Especially if you are just starting out or have very little blog posts. Blog Rush uses your past blog postings as content for the widget. So if you don’t have catchy blog titles or no content at all you won’t fare well.

John Reese and others advocate making your blog posts look like headlines. Many of the postings on my blog have been made with SEO in mind, not BlogRush. I believe in using relevant keyword phrases not catchy headlines in your blog titles for the best search engine results. This goes contrary to what BlogRush advises which as I write this is being updated…hmmm.

Only time will tell whether this cool sounding widget will be embraced or discarded. In the meantime I’ll keep watching it for the off chance it starts resulting in traffic :)

  1. Matt,
Those stats don’t look good. I guess there should be some sort of click through rate if this widget is worth it’s size on my page.
However, 70,000 impressions and only 35 clicks is almost like NOTHING.

Is the real estate BlogRush is taking up on my site worth it? Could I put something else in it’s place which would be better for traffic and/or income? – Right now, I’m thinking so, but I’ll give it a little while longer.
I’m sure John Reese will have a good explanation.

But now that I think about it, maybe this proves that sites like Digg, Technorati, Stumble, etc. are more valuable to people than a sidebar mini blog headline RSS feed big widget.

I think I get more clicks on MyBlogLog pics than the BlogRush thing.

    Thanks for the comment Mike,

Yes, there are probably better things to add to your blog instead of the BlogRush widget. Here’s a new one that looks promising:

    http://www.dealdotcom.com/blog/2007/09/18/dealdotcom-wordpress-plugin-beta/

It’s an affiliate widget for Wordpress for the deal of the day. Should help drive that affiliate income with new daily product selections.
