DataFeed to Web

(Caution - Ebay is currently migrating from the Commission Junction Affiliate program to their own. Putting this technique as listed below in jeopardy)

Today, I'm sharing a cool datafeed to web technique that you can use to make affiliate income. This datafeed affiliate technique, uses data feeds from the popular Ebay site and displays them on your own blog.

The Ebay data feeds are displayed as affiliate links, which pay you for each visitor who follows the link and goes on to make a purchase on Ebay. The amount you're payed is 50% of the Ebay commission for the item purchased.

You also earn from $25 to $35 for each new user that signs up for eBay through your link.

The great thing about making money by driving traffic to Ebay is it uses free tools, like Wordpress, and a free Wordpress data feed plugin. The only thing you will need to pay for is your own website domain and website hosting to get started.

To give you an idea of what this is all about check out my data feed site over at MP3 Accessory.

You can see that the datafeeds are automatically displayed on my website and they frequently update as the pages are refreshed, enabling new auctions to always be shown.

You can select how many auction datafeeds you want to show up on each page and which keywords you want to display for results.

For this example, I'm displaying the results from Ebay for the keyword, 'Samsumg P2 Player,' with a total of ten listings being displayed.

If you'd like to set up your own affiliate datafeed site and start making money sending traffic to Ebay, here's how...

First you'll need your own hosting account and domain. If you don't have a domain or a hosting account I recommend you get a Hostgator shared account to get started. I've been using them for many months and have been quite satisfied. Hostgator also has free c-panel with easy installation of Wordpress which is an easy platform to use for posting content and importing your affiliate datafeeds.

Second you'll want to sign up with Ebay and join their affiliate program directly, or sign up through Commission Junction. You will need to have your site before you are accepted to the program.

Third, you'll need to get a free template to use for your new site. you can find a huge variety of Wordpress templates at the Wordpress Themes Viewer.

Forth, you'll want to get the free datafeed affiliate plugin at Wired Studios. Then activate it using the instructions provided in the zip file.

Fifth, you'll want to create content and imput the Ebay datafeed keywords and amount of listings like this:

Now you can concentrate on adding new pages of content to your site followed by your affiliate data feed code. After you've got several pages of content, you'll want to refocus your efforts on driving traffic to your pages.

    Hey Mike,

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, this is one of those easy to set up techniques that, after you set up the groundwork can run almost on auto-pilot. The trick is to choose a good converting niche within Ebay.

If you’ve got a domain with the keywords of your chosen niche in it, it will make driving organic traffic to your site much easier. Once you get some content on your page, it really boils down to driving traffic to it.

I don’t usually say this, but with this type of site its really a numbers game. The more targeted visitors you funnel to ebay the better your chances of sales conversion. With this philosophy, I’m keeping the amount of content to a minimum and focusing on building incoming traffic and creating pages with a lot of datafeed content only.

Keep me posted with how you new site does…

  3. Mike when you say create content are you talking about writing articles about the type of products you are wanting people to visit ebay for or are you speaking about something else. Also do you know if this this works with other web 2.0 sites like hubpages?

I’ve been testing affiliate datafeeds out for a few weeks and you’ll want content on your site in the form of short articles. You should use specific keywords and keyword phrases to turn up naturally in search results for long tail keyword searches.

Hubpages already has an eBay datafeed scheme in place, however I believe they take a cut out of the profits. I’d recommend using your own blog to avoid sharing revenue. However, Hubpages is great for getting great search results for keywords and funneling traffic back to your own sites or sales pages.

    Yesss Mike !!

Great tool , but do you know about a “flexible” tool that can be adapted to other sources then only eBay? We all have datafeeds available thru many other affiliate accounts, a “universal” WP plugin would be great .

Just in today… Ebay Cancelling Commission Junction Partnership!

We are ——– to announce eBay’s new global affiliate platform: the eBay Partner Network.

The new platform will go live on April 1st, 2008 PST, at which point eBay will no longer be running its affiliate program through Commission Junction. Beginning April 1st, affiliates should register with eBay Partner Network and migrate their links from CJ to the new platform.

While CJ and ValueClick have been valuable partners to eBay throughout the years, we’ve decided to give our affiliate community a customized experience for eBay affiliates.

All the great tools and benefits of working with the eBay program will remain the same – access to the Editor Kit and affiliate API, the flexible destination tool, the great payout structure. In addition, the eBay partner network will provide several new features:
    • Easy global registration to multiple countries simultaneously
    • New, targeted banners and rich media creatives
    • New landing page optimization and geo-targeting capabilities
    • More detailed reporting capabilities for eBay’s programs

The eBay Partner Network and Commission Junction will run in parallel for one month through this process, so please plan to complete your migration by May 1st, 2008.

You can receive an additional 5% bonus for all traffic tracked through eBay Partner Network in April 2008 (bonus applicable to traffic sent to Half.com and US, UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, India and Spain eBay sites). The sooner you migrate, the more you’ll earn! Just:
    • Register with eBay Partner Network on April 1, 2008
    • Confirm your registration, and obtain your new identifiers
    • Update your links with your new identifiers.
    • Reminder: Please plan to complete migration by May 1, 2008.

You will receive more information and step by step directions for the transition on April 1st. A special help desk to answer your questions about migration will also be available starting April 1st. You can find more details, including a list of programs that will be affected, at http://affiliates.ebay.com.

Thanks for being a valued partner. We’re excited for a successful transition, and the opportunity to grow your business through even more innovations, information and communication moving forward!

    Sincerely,

    eBay’s Affiliates Managers

  9. Live TV Says:

    Matt,
If you want to display ebay ads on your website than you should sign up to shoping ads (auction ads). With shoping ads it is much easier because you do not have to change the code for every ebay product you want to display on your website.
