Get On Search Engine First Page

Everyone who starts a website would like to get on the search engine first page. Well, here’s a post to show you how I get on the first page of Google and other popular search engines using a insanely-simple and free method.

You can use this technique automatically by carefully choosing the keywords in your domain name to match searches in your target market. Once you’ve added content to your website, some incoming links, proper on page optimization and your site has been indexed you should start seeing results.

Here’s an example of a domain I set up for my Stumble Traffic product aptly called, “Stumble Traffic.” I chose a domain name that would benefit from the people typing in, Stumble + Traffic into the search engines.

The domain name I selected was, StumbleTrafficBook.com. Here’s the results in Google after a couple of months:

First page Google

You can see that out of 108 million webpages competing for the keyword phrase, “traffic book,” I’m in fifth place. The cool thing is I’m only beat out by mega sites like Yahoo and Amazon. The strong matching keywords in my domain name definitely give my website clout with Google.

But, it’s not just Google either, here’s a screenshot from Yahoo for the phrase, “stumble traffic.” For this phrase my website is first out of 29 million competing pages.

Are you getting any indication of the power of using popular keywords in your domain name yet?

Here’s a cool screenshot for a very targeted term that puts me in direct competition with the website my product is all about. The phrase is, “stumbleupon website.” This one puts a big smile on my face…

Now to make this work for you, there’s a few things you need to consider. These are…

  1. Your website’s topic
  2. Popular keywords related to that topic
  3. Competition for those keywords

You’re on your own about coming up with your topic. Once you’ve got that, one of the easiest ways to determine which keyword phrases to select for your domain names is to do a little Keyword research. I like to use the free Wordtracker Google Trends tool at: http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/gtrends/

This tool is great for giving you an idea of the amount of searches a phrase gets as well as the competition. With this information handy you can go and look for a domain name that has these keywords.

To easily find domain names fast, I use the cool ajax based domain name finder at: http://instantdomainsearch.com/ As fast as you can type it tells you whether the domain name is available. It’s a great tool for checking a bunch of domain variations.

**Quick Caveat: You want to make sure not to use trademarked names in your new domain. Doing so can result in a cease and desist order, that can end up involving high priced lawyers, lawsuits, etc**

Proper search engine optimization for your website is best done with a general strategy of many things working together. That’s why it’s important that in addition to choosing a good domain name, you also maintain your link building, and use proper posting & content creation techniques.

The technique above is best used in conjunction with a solid anchor text campaign. This means linking back to your website with the keyword phrase you wish to optimize for. For instance, in my, “stumble traffic,” example I would always link back to my website like this:

<a href="http://www.stumbletrafficbook.com">stumble traffic</a>

This way my text link will be recognized by viewers and the search engines as the phrase associated with my website. This type of link is very beneficial in your overall linking startegy and should be used whenever possible.

Thanks for this informative post. Good thing you said something about trademark infringement in the domain name. I was looking at Google Trends based on your previous post and found a bunch of ideas for a new domain name using these keywords. Have to remember not to use a trademarked term to avoid trouble.
