@Tim Workman: Setting up Skype Security (www.VoIP-Download.com/Skype.htm#Security) does actually work, IF you also remove your personal info in your Skype account: birthdate, gender, home number, etc.

I wonder if the new Skype for Asterisk will lead to businesses getting spam on their actual deskphone voicemail. Think about it, now that Skype is connected to business PBX’s, Skype spammers can Skype into the PBX and then route the call to whoever they want to-a brand new way to spam people…

Guys, this is a little out of date..

Here is the latest way to stop Skype Spam:

There are three privacy options that need to be set:

In the Privacy Settings:
1) Allow calls from…
Set to “people in my Contact list only”

2) Automatically receive video from…
Set to “only people in my Contact List”

3) Allow IMs from…
Set to ‘people in my contact list only’

4) UN-check “Allow my status to be shown on the web”

You may need to upgrade to the latest version of Skype to see the above.

Thanks. I`m realy looking for solution for skype spammers. This is crazy. Every day i receiving messages from bots. I even think about create new account or change provider, but i realy like my nick Hope this help in this hopeless struggle.

This WILL NOT stop spammers from requesting your contact details. I have the settings set as per above and I’m still getting over 20 requests a day from bots asking to be added to my contact list. This is an issue with the public availability of the Skype directory and the very loose controls over issuing of Skype accounts. Unfortunately, the only way to make this appear as though it has stopped is to stop Skype from alerting you every timne someone requests to be added to your contact list and frankly, what’s the point of doing that. Then no-one will be able to contact you at all. Unfortunately, the only way to stop it is to deactivate your current account and get a new one (until that get6s into the hands of the spammers and then you’ll have to do it all over again). A simple fix would be for Skype to have an option for displaying your name in the on-line directory (or more to the point, NOT displaying it). This way at least you could choose whether or not you wanted to have your Skype account available to spammers.

Skype is SHITE. They could perfectly easily prevent complete strangers from contacting me* but they don’t as they’re terrified of losing even a small part of their revenue stream_ Cobards and cretins. Waste of time.
*When I ssay “contacting me”; I mean logging on to Skype and finding lewd messages, an invitation to a dodgy webcam and general porn. I am not interested, I would never in a million years let complete strangers accost me in this way yet Skype lets it go on. ICQ was just as bad and I ditched it for the same reason.

This seems like a good idea but stopping couple spam messages a month this way would mean also stopping all of my friends from reaching me (the ones I don’t have on my contact list). Though if someone gets a lot of spam it might be pretty useful.

This is interesting. But it does not work for me.

I just met a few really cool people because of skypeme mode.
And I put my personal information in skype so that people can
find me.

However a simple addition of a keyword/url blocker would fix
the solution – it looks like the Skype company is high-horsing
it, as the client has few features and customizability and could
use improvement, which does not seem to be a priority.

Oh well, forward for gizmo!
